Antioxidants used in production of rubber products. Part I. Ageing of rubber and currently used antioxidants - review, benefits and risks

The wear and ageing processes of rubber materials at first limit and then make using them impossible due to worsening of mechanical properties. The ageing prevention relates to the use of antidegradants like antioxidants or antiozonants. Presented review is the first part of work connected with antioxidants dedicated to produce rubber elements. The ageing process of rubber, currently used antioxidants, benefits and risks connected with using them were described.

Influence of plasma-chemically modified carbon nanotubes on properties of sulphur vulcanizates of styrene-butadiene rubber

The work presents results of studies devoted to plasma-activated grafting of silanes: vinyl- (Silane V) or mercapto- (Silane M) ones, onto the surface of functionalized multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNT): carboxylated (CNT-COOH) and hydrogenated (CNT-OH) ones. Influence of the modification on the free surface energy of MWCNT and its components, as well as the influence of plasma energy on the efficiency of silane grafting onto activated surface of nanotubes have been studied. The effect of silanes grafted onto the surface of MWCNT on crosslink structure of sulphur vulcanizates of styrene-butadiene rubber (SBR) has been confirmed. Obtained strengthening of the vulcanizates filled with plasma-chemically modified MWCNT has been explained by chemical grafting of silanes onto their surface - being responsible for an increase of interphase rubber-filler interactions and a scission of nanotubes - making their dispersion in rubber matrix improved.

The structure of bitumen modified with SBS copolymer and synthetic wax

This work shows the results of studies on the structure of modified bitumen with SBS copolymer and synthetic wax. The styrene-butadiene-styrene (SBS) copolymer in the amount of 1-4 wt% and 0.5 wt% of synthetic wax were added to the road bitumen 35/50. For the obtained bitumen-polymer compositions, quality and quantity evaluation of structure by fluorescence microscopy were carried out. On the base of quality and quantity microscopic tests can determine the homogeneity of the bitumen-polymer compositions, and particle size of the polymer in the bitumen.

The correlation between abrasive wear and mechanical properties of polyurethane elastomers

The aim of the study was to investigate a correlation between the abrasive wear, hardness, tear strength and tensile strength of polyurethane elastomers. Polyurethane elastomers have been synthesized by two-step reaction. The methodology of measurement and comparative analysis of the results were explained.
