The use of nanotechnology in the rubber industry

The article presents the problem of nanotechnology in the rubber industry and the prospects of the use of nanotechnology in Poland in the field of technology elastomers. It was found that there is a significant discrepancy between the level of nanotechnology in Poland and developed countries, especially the United States, which relates to the use of nanotechnology in the rubber industry. So far, the national industrial centers do not take significant development in the field of nanotechnology, which could lead to significant progress.
In recent times, there is some improvement in this regard. Deserve attention work undertaken by the company Geyer & Hosaja and Kabat and Werba for the quality of the tires. National Research and Development Centre has taken actions to increase the activity of domestic enterprises in this field.

Rubber and plastics industry in Poland against the background of other industries in the years 2012-2013

Rubber industry in Poland, like the entire national economy, noted in 2013 the positive economic phenomena in comparison with 2012. Whereas in 2012 the GDP fell, in 2013 was a clear reversal of the situation. The overall rate of GDP increased from 0.7 % of GDP in 2012 to 1.6% in 2013 representing however, lower growth than assumed in the government’s budget plan (2.2%). Good results are also achieved the rubber industry.
Production of the most important raw materials and products manufactured by the chemical industry, including the rubber industry continued in 2013. Generally, with few exceptions, unchanged. Noteworthy a significant increase in the domestic production of plastics, primarily PVC (especially in Wloclawek, after the completion of repairs modernization). Concern is while the decline in production of fertilizers, which is caused by, among others, high prices of imported gas.

The use of renewable raw materials and waste in the synthesis of polyurethanes

The review, based on the literature and personal research, shows the status of knowledge about application in the synthesis of polyurethanes of renewable raw materials and waste materials, mainly natural oil derived polyols, waste glycerol from biodiesel production and tall oil.

Protection of rubbers against ageing using diffusion, kinetic and structural effects

Processes of rubber ageing in the different kinetic modes and mathematical models of the processes including ageing and destruction processes under extreme conditions are studied. The ageing process for rubbers as thermodynamically open nonlinear systems is considered. It was revealed that the ageing process can be controlled by means of the internal physical and chemical processes organization and by creation of external influences (by the organization of thermodynamic forces and streams). According to the Onsager principle, in certain conditions of ageing the conjugation of thermodynamic forces and streams is possible. The diffusion and structural aspects of ageing of elastomeric compositions and articles thereof are considered.

Properties of the rubber compounds and the vulcanizates containing pyrolytic carbon

This work investigates the properties of the rubber compounds of NR, SBR and EPDM, and their vulcanizates containing coal (char) fillers from tire pyrolysis compared to their properties with commercial carbon blacks. Performed the study the basic properties of the carbon filler like examines the technical carbon black used in the rubber industry. Based on the results, it was found that the properties of carbon from tire pyrolysis cannot be regarded as equivalent to the standard Carbon Black used in rubber industry. The obtained results indicate that the properties of the compounds and the vulcanizates containing char from pyrolysis after machining and grinding to 325 mesh are similar to those obtained when using carbon blacks N772 or N550. Examined linear regression coefficients of determination indicate that the properties of the tested vulcanizates more dependent on oil number than iodine number of the fillers.

Elastomeric compositions based on nitrile butadiene rubber containing polytetrafluorethylene pyrolysis products

The effect polytetrafluorethylene pyrolysis products "Forum" on the properties of the elastomer compositions based on nitrile-butadiene rubber were investigated. It was found that addition of the modifying agent in amount of 0.1 to 0.6 phr reduces viscosity, accelerates the vulcanization process and improves the technical properties of vulcanizates.
