Rubber industry in the first half of the XXIst century

In the paper actual problems connected with raw materials accessibility and density of earth population, important from rubber technology point of view, have been presented. Perspectives of progress in the area have been discussed, taking into account, first of all, application of new methods of studies and classes of raw materials, particularly nanofillers and biopolymers.
Necessity of effective recycling of used rubber goods has been emphasized. It has been noticed importance of rubber technology for contemporary civilization.

Curing characteristics, static and dynamic mechanical properties of styrene-butadiene rubber/reclaimed rubber blends

The effect of reclaimed rubber and amount of vulcanization accelerators contents on curing characteristic, mechanical properties and dynamic mechanical properties of styrene-butadiene rubber/reclaimed rubber blends were determined. Ground tire rubber was reclaimed by using co-rotating twin screw extruder. Increasing content of reclaimed rubber (10-50 phr) has a positive influence on mechanical properties of obtained vulcanizates, regardless of amount of vulcanization accelerators. Using of higher amount of vulcanization accelerators increased of scorch time and optimal vulcanization time. Blends cured with reduced content of accelerators were characterized by lower glass transition temperature and deterioration of mechanical properties of vulcanizates.

Resistance of polymer films to mineral oil

The aim of the presented study was to determine the barrier properties of butyl rubber and carboxylated acrylonitrile butadiene rubber latex membranes against exposure to a selected group of chemical substances - mineral oils. The barrierity was assessed on the basis of sorptive properties of the membranes, by determining their equilibrium volume swelling in the particular oil. In the case of XNBR latex membranes, only small decrease of swelling was observed for materials without and with 5.0 phr nanofiller content, respectively. In contrast, materials produced from IIR were characterized by considerably higher swelling in oil, and the addition of nanofiller improved their resistance to oils.

Application results of N-1,3-dimethylbutyl-N´-phenyl-para-phenylenediamine (6PPD) prepared by a new technology in VUCHT a.s.

This paper compares the evaluation results of 2 samples of 6PPD (N-1,3-dimethylbutyl-N´-phenyl-para-phenylenediamine) prepared by two different technologies:
- 6PPD prepared by "traditional" technology
- 6PPD prepared by a new, simplified technology (NASH) being tested in VUCHT a.s.
The influence of the 6PPD samples on cure charactaristics of a testing rubber compound and on the tensile properties and resistance of vulcanizates against thermo-oxidative aging, ozone and dynamic fatigue is compared. They are also tested as stabilizers for synthetic rubber (E-SBR).
